The conference titled “CPEC: Prospects and Opportunities for Gilgit Baltistan, A Perspective Business and Policy Agenda” was organized on 3rd November 2017 at Karakoram International University, Gilgit Baltistan.

Conference was structured into 4 sessions.

Session I was the inaugural session addressed by the chief guest Ibarhim Sanai, Minister for education. Dr. Shahid Rashid gave the opening remarks and welcome address was given by Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed, Vice Chancellor KIU.

Session II was the first technical session naming “Socioeconomic Impacts of CPEC”. The session was addressed by the keynote speakers Hassan Dawood Butt, Deputy Project Director for all CPEC projects and Ms. Rani Atika, MLA GB. Moreover, Dr. Uzma and Ms. Sadia from Iqra University presented on Eco-Tourism and Sustainable Development in CPEC Perspective.

Session III was titled as “Trade, Investment and Entrepreneurship through CPEC”. The keynote speaker for this session was Mr. Mustafa Haider Syed, Executive Director Pak-China Institute. Brig. Iftikhar Ahmed, Director NLC explained the current and future operations of NLC in GB. While Mr. Ali Raza Hanjara, Custom Collector, GB shared his views on trade facilitation and port efficiency.

Session IV was concluded with the closing remarks by Gilgit Baltistan Minister for Planning, Development and Information, Iqbal Hassan.

The conference concluded with a discussion among speakers and participants. The main purpose was to put forward recommendations, so that the prospects and opportunities of CPEC for Gilgit Baltistan can be analysed. All the sessions were followed by question answers in order to get the views of the local community and to address them through government bodies.
