Meeting of Dr. Saleem Janjua, Policy Head Urban Development CoE-CPEC with Mr Jost Pachaly, Policy Advisor, Heinrich Boll Stiftung (HBS), Germany

A meeting was held on 30-11-2017 among Dr Saleem Janjua, Policy Head CoE-CPEC and a delegation from HBS consisting of Jost Pachaly (Policy Advisor), Jacqueline Wink (Regional Coordinator), and Mome Saleem (Program Coordinator) at CoE CPEC office.

The meeting started by a brief presentation on “CPEC: A New Era of Development for Pakistan” by Dr.Saleem Janjua. The presentation discussed the Belt and Road Initiative (B&RI) / OBOR, followed by an in-depth analysis of CPEC background, targets, timelines, institutional framework, and the project portfolio. The 3 research priority areas of Urban Development division (urbanization, environment & transport) were also discussed.

Officials from the Heinrich Böll Stiftung (HBS) introduced their organization. HBS is a German foundation and part of the Green political movement that has developed worldwide as a response to the traditional politics of socialism, liberalism, and conservatism. Their main tenets are ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self-determination and justice. The delegation expressed keen interest in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and the benefits that it promises to not only Pakistan and China, but to the global community.

COE-CPEC and HBS aim to engage in policy research and dissemination activities. It was also discussed that the ultimate aim of all development under CPEC should be prosperity and welfare of the residents of Pakistan and China, and the benefits should flow to the global community.
