Meeting of Policy Head Urban Development CoE-CPEC With Vice Chancellor NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi

A meeting was held between Dr. Saleem Janjua, Policy Head Urban Development Division of CoE-CPEC and Dr. Sarosh Lodhi Vice Chancellor, NED University on 19-09-2017. Other faculty members of NED University also participated in the meeting.

The meeting started with an introduction of both institutions. NED University is one of the top ranking universities of Pakistan with respect to engineering subjects and the CPEC projects completed in future will have a high share of graduates from the university. The VC was of the view that the NED University considers CPEC projects as an opportunity for urban development through Karachi Circular Railway (KCR). CPEC projects would increase employment and job generation. The university aims to provide technical education. Moreover, it has already made Chinese language compulsory for its students,, thus aiming to reap maximum benefits from CPEC projects.

On behalf of CoE-CPEC, Dr. Saleem Janjua stressed the need of research on CPEC projects especially the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project so that the policy/engineering related solutions to the problems arising under CPEC projects may be addressed. Both institutions agreed to carry out joint policy research activities, host conferences, trainings, and other activities aiming to strengthen the CPEC portfolio
