MoU Signing Ceremony between CoE-CPEC and GCISC, Ministry of Climate Change

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Centre of Excellence-China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CoE-CPEC) and Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC) on 19th January 2018, Islamabad. The MoU was signed by Dr. Shahid Rashid, Executive Director CoE-CPEC and Dr. Tariq Banuri Executive Director GCISC. Urban Development division CoE-CPEC headed by Dr. Saleem Janjua facilitated the signing of MoU. The ceremony was attended by senior officials of CoE-CPEC and GCISC including Dr. Saleem Janjua, Head of Policy, CoE-CPEC and Mr. Arif Goheer, Senior Scientific Officer, GCISC.

The purpose of MOU signing was that GCISC and CoE-CPEC share common objectives, which includes the pursuit of climate-resilient development for CPEC projects. The two organizations, together with other relevant entities and experts aim to help shape the national research agenda on climate related opportunities and challenges to the ongoing and planned CPEC developments

The MOU was signed to undertake and promote joint activities which include commissioning research studies on climate related impacts of and threats to the ongoing and planned CPEC developments, collaboration on the design and organization of the annual science-policy conference on climate change (SP3C); conduct training and capacity building activities, carry out outreach and dissemination activities (round tables, stakeholder meetings, conferences, seminars, or workshops).  Exchange of technical or other personnel or experts can also take place between the two institutions.  CoE-CPEC and GCISC may also benefit from mutual exchange and sharing of data, library resources, research techniques, publications, reports, or software. Any other cooperation that may be agreed upon by both parties and as needed may also be catered.
