Educational Qualification
Dr. Khan’s got M.Sc (1978) and M.Phil (1985) Geography from the University of Peshawar and PhD in Planning studies from the University of Nottingham UK in 1991. He conducted Post-Doc research project titled “Nigerian Evidence-based Health System Initiative” (NEHSI) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Neil Andersson funded by CIET Trust and IDRC-CIDA Canada 2012-13.
Experience
Amir Khan started his career by joining the University of Peshawar as a lecturer in 1980 and got retirement in 2015 after serving the University for more than 35 years.

Dr. Khan serves the Institute/Department as Director and chairman for three successful terms from: 1997 to 2000, 2003 to 2006 and from 2010 to 2013. After getting Ph.D from UK in 1991 he serves in the University for 24 years.

He was associated with various national and international research organisations and Universities for the conducting research and execution of a number project and worked as Regional planner/ Research associate/State Team leader/Technical advisor in DFID; USAID; World Bank project on school and health facilities mapping; UN-WFP Environmental Rehabilitation Project for Malakand region; UN/ESCAP research Projects on Urban Environmental issues/State of Environment (SOE) for The Asia and The Pacific region 2000; Provincial level study for environmental consideration in the decision making; UNDP Project on Good Governance; ICIMOD project for the State of Environment and Development in the mountainous regions of Pakistan; CIDA-IDRC/CIET Canada Project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the implementation of three Social Audit and governance project and the study of violence against women 2002 to 2006; CIET Trust international course Manager on epidemiology and evidence based planning; CIDA/CIET Social audit research coordinator-Afghanistan 2008-09. Most recently implemented NEHSI-MSS and CSS projects on primary health care (PHC) project of the Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria and CIDA-IDRC Canada implemented by CIET Trust Canada; health Healteam member of October 2005 earthquake natural disaster recovery project: in joint collaboration with the Cambridge University UK.
Dr. Khan is adjunct faculty member of the Department of Geography and Urban and Regional Planning, University of Peshawar. He is also chairman of the steering committee on Land use for government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Policy Unit of P&D Department; member selection board Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar from 2013-2015 and currently member selection board Islamia college University Peshawar. Also higher education commission (HEC) approved Ph. D supervisor.
