Piloting of Designed Instruments to Measure Socio Economic Impacts of CPEC

1573

Socio Economic Division at CoE-CPEC conducted a series of workshops to design instruments/questionnaires to establish the baseline particularly in those areas where any of the CPEC interventions/projects completed or in execution stage to measure “How CPEC interventions would uplift the socio-economic conditions of people of the area in particular and people who live elsewhere in general”.  Baseline study would help to compare the socio-economic conditions after CPEC interventions over a period and would show the changes occur in term of socio-economic uplift.

The designed instruments/questionnaires were shared and discussed with relevant stakeholders for feedback and comments. Finalized instruments/questionnaires were piloted for further improvement. Piloting of instrument was a one week extensive activity, in which survey team, Socio Economic Division and resource persons actively participated.

Survey team was trained by the resource persons about;

  • Use of digital data gathering tool and Digital instruments/questionnaires to acquire digital data.
  • Field and research ethics
  • Confidentiality and respect of Data/Information and people/community
  • Engaging households in a professional way for acquiring data/information
  • Time Management and coordination
  • Giving them freedom if they do not wish to answer a question
  • Benefits of the survey and effective communication

Pilot study was conducted first in the nearby community in closer vicinity of Islamabad and then in district Haripur where E35 Havallian section of Hazara Motor way is opened covering both Ghazi and Haripur tehsils. During the pilot study, the House Hold (HH) questionnaire was tested on daily basis and points were noted by the survey team for modification of questionnaire. After getting feedback and preliminary analysis, the recommended changes incorporated accordingly in instruments/questionnaires.

In order to make the instrument more functional and useful feedback session is conducted on fourth day and feedback is taken from the survey team. Furthermore, SE Division will design a model study for each CPEC interventions (SEZs, Energy, Infrastructure, Fiber Optics). Field survey for the first road project will be started soon.
