A meeting on role of CPEC in Naya Pakistan Housing Program was held under the co chairmanship of Mr. Omer Rasul, Secretary Board of Investment and Mr. Zaigham Mahmood Rizvi, Chairman Task Force, Prime Minister’s Naya Pakistan Housing Program. The purpose of meeting was to discuss and define role of CPEC in Naya Pakistan Housing Program along with specific tasks related to CoE CPEC. Meeting was held on 19th June 2019 in Conference Room of Centre of Excellence – CPEC.
The meeting took place with introduction of Research Teams of CoE CPEC and brief introduction about the major activities carried out by the centre. During the meeting Dr. Amir Khan, Policy Head Socio-Economic Impacts and Urban Development under CPEC appraised the member regarding already made policy recommendations on housing contextualizing and housing cooperation under CPEC. Furthermore, he explained different housing models (housing program, site and services scheme, including towns in periphery of major cities and upgradation), which explained key requirements for housing along with the best practices, such as to regularize the deregulated land sector, high rise for urban areas, provision of plots for rural housing and slum upgrading was also suggested.
Addressing on the occasion Mr. Zaigham highlighted about the progress done so far under Naya Pakistan Housing Program, he also encouraged the intellect policy paper produced by the CoE CPEC in housing sector under CPEC portfolio. He also encouraged that a dedicated Joint Working Group on Housing Program under CPEC may be formed.
