Round table Conference on “Reforming the State-Owned Enterprises of Pakistan – Learning from China”

Ltd. Jointly arranged a seminar on Reforming the State-Owned Enterprises of Pakistan – Learning from China on 24th of June 2019, at PIDE, Islamabad.

The speakers included Mr. Muneer Kamal – CEO, Karachi Education Initiative: Karachi School of Business and Leadership, Dr. Arshad Zaman – Former Chief Economist, Planning Commission, Mr. Zafar Iqbal Sobani – Board Member of Privatization Commission, Dr. Fazal Hussain – Vice Chancellor PIDE, Dr. Liaqat Ali Shah – Executive Director, Centre of Excellence for CPEC,        Mr. Istqbal Mehdi – CEO, Al-Aman Holdings, Dr. Pervez Tahir – Former Chief Economist, Planning Commission, Dr. Fahd Amjad – Policy Head, Regional Connectivity under CPEC and Mr. Yasir Arrfat – Research Associate CoE-CPEC, who spoke on the learning from the experience of reforms of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in China, in order to ensure that State Owned Enterprises demonstrate their proper role in CPEC and the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI).

Speakers highlighted major SOEs in Pakistan are in the fields of energy, finance, industry, engineering, trade and transport sector etc. It was also discussed that SOEs in China are considered to be as a great opportunity and as a “leading force in the national economy” and the SOE reform has been a continuous activity of the government since 1978.

The Seminar was well-concluded by Mr. Muneer Kamal and ended up on a good note for further implementations and directions.
