Pakistan was able to realize the importance of Gwadar Port back in 1954 when it was still under Oman’s Rule. Pakistan government engaged United States Geological Survey (USGS) to conduct a detailed survey of its coastline. Survey was encouraging for development of port at Gwadar. Due diligence commenced and after four years of negotiations, Pakistani government was able to purchase Gwadar enclave at the cost of 3 million USD.
